Trump’s plan to invade Greenland will damage US flower and floral industries.

Update: Canada, France, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands have sent or are sending troops to Greenland to protect it from US invasion. This action is a direct reflection of threats from US President Donald Trump. We will keep you posted as we learn more and hear from our partners in The Netherlands about pending shipments.

We know how invading Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, will affect us. Do you know how it will affect you?

An invasion of Greenland will force our current NATO allies into action against us. Already, Denmark has launched military vessels to protect Greenland from a potential invasion by the United States. Denmark is preparing for an attack by the US and we expect Denmark to be (understandably) backed by other NATO countries. France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK, Sweden, and The Netherlands have all publicly backed Denmark.

A breach of the NATO agreement by a member state will break the alliance and - at worst - lead us into World War 3. Initially, and perhaps preemptively, we can expect to lose our trade partners in Europe. We would lose access to all Dutch flower bulbs, plants, and the international cut flower marketplace.

An invasion of Greenland is likely to devastate both the US flower farming marketplace and the conventional floral trade that depends on imported, finished cut flowers.

If you’re still thinking that your flower business can afford to be apolitical, we encourage and implore you to raise your voice. Contact your congressional representatives and tell them you oppose action in Greenland. Demand that they stop the executive branch from plunging us into more illegal foreign wars.

Trump’s illegal import tariffs have already shrunk business for bulb companies like ours by 30%. We expect business to continue to shrink if action is not taken to reverse the policies that strain our farmer-customers. We will continue to advocate for change. We encourage you to take steps to help save the US flower industry, too.
