Astrantia: Cold Hardy Perennial for Cut Flower Growers

Looking to build your perennial collection? Have you considered astrantia? Astrantia is cold hardy in zones 4-7, blooms in early summer and is a great option for both fresh and dried cut flower work.

Astrantia grows into large clumps that can be divided for increasing stock (the easiest way to propagate it), and if some flowers are left to go to seed over open beds, we also find that it self sows readily.

Take a closer look at astrantia here in this video filmed in mid June on our zone 4-5 farm in the northern Adirondacks. Four astrantia varieties are listed in our spring roots web catalogue with shipping to customers beginning in March. Mature bare root plants offer growers a jump start on production, with size-able harvests coming years earlier than crops grown from seed.

Note: We offer only heirloom astrantia varieties that are not produced on occupied territories or in countries practicing apartheid.
